WHY THE NAME “HALPATTER?”

The name “HALPATTER” comes from the Seminole chief Halpatter Tustenuggee, OR the 'Warrior Chief Alligator” from the Eufaula tribe native of Columbia County, Florida. prior to being named lake city in 1859, lake city was called "Halapata Telofa" or Alligator Town. so halpatter, in it’s origin, means alligator - but it also honors the natives who lived here originally.
